THE CELEBRATION STARTS HERE!

Yes, I said it. The best high school rivalry in Arizona!

For five decades, the crosstown rivals have butted heads in all sports, competed for city, division, and state titles, and done so with class and spirit. This site is a celebration, and through statistics, pictures, links, and articles, the hope is to not only deliver a portrait of the rivalry that is comprehensive and vivid, but is also relevant. It is a project with the aspirations to not only look back fondly, but to enjoy the present. The rivalry is not some relic tossed in the attic and to be forgotten, but rather, it deserves its mantle, its place of honor. It is interwoven with the history of Flagstaff, it is part of the community and its shared culture. The glorious battles of the 70s and 80s still reverberate under the timber beams of the Skydome. Those battles, still as intense as ever, continue to this day, and every annual contest lends itself to the growing legacy the rivalry has enjoyed.

Flagcoco is a work in progress, so please come by from time to time and see what's new.  Five years young.

If you came here for the history of the rivalry, if you're interested in the two schools, their traditions, and their current standing in the Arizona sports scene, Flagcoco might have what you're looking for.

And if you came here because of the bold declaration, that the Coconino-Flag High rivalry is the best high school rivalry in Arizona, you're more than welcome to challenge me. If you're from the Valley and believe the Hamilton-Chandler rivalry is better, or in the White Mountains and think it's Blue Ridge-Show Low, or Bisbee-Douglas near the border, or Chaparral-Saguaro, Kingman-Mohave, the Ahwatukee Bowl, or any other, you're more than welcome to step up. Present your evidence. Create your own site. Celebrate your alma mater and your nemesis. Present the competition, the pageantry, the passion that has built your rivalry over the years. Talk about football, baseball, basketball, boys, girls.  I encourage and even dare you. Show the cyberuniverse your enthusiasm and school spirit. Believe me, I will.
